Active Directory Maturity Model

A Business Audit of the Active Directory

Genesis RKeyTec have developed the Active Directory Maturity Model (ADMM), to assess the design and implementation of an Active Directory and measure how effectively the implementation meets the requirements of the business.

The result of the Audit is an accurate indication of the level of optimisation of your Active Directory implementation - the foundation for the security and stability of your entire Windows infrastructure.

The ADMM process

A Genesis RKeyTec specialist assesses your current implementation for the critical business solutions required of all optimised directories.

The analysis takes one day in all except the very largest environments.

The Outline report is delivered at a stake-holder’s meeting on conclusion of the analysis. The meeting allows the Auditor to explain the findings and the stake-holders to ask any questions.

An optional detailed report can be requested, but requires at least an additional day to prepare.

The detailed report contains the same findings as the outline, but documents the background and meaning of the material that was discussed in the stakeholder meeting.

This is usually requested by organisations when the results of the audit must be circulated to people who were not present at the meeting.

ADMM Reporting

The Outline report contains all the observations recorded during the audit. The detailed report documents the meaning and impact of these observations as discussed with the stakeholders.

The reports break down the findings into the following realms, assigning each realm a quantitative score, then bulleting the observations that lead to that score.

Overall Physical
Stability
This determines if the placements of directory servers, their replication and availability to clients and suitability of meeting the needs of the organisation’s Windows infrastructure.
Overall Logical Implementation This is the main focus of the audit, highlighting the overall “fitness for business purpose” of the Active Directory implementation. This score is a statistical amalgamation of the component scores described below.
Security
(logical Breakdown)
How well the directory has been structured to provide the best security for the organisation
Manageability
(logical Breakdown)
How well has environmental control been implemented to increase the security and reduce the cost of ownership of the system
Stability
(logical Breakdown)
How resilient is the directory and how resistant to uncontrolled change
Compliance
(logical Breakdown)
How well the directory meets the demands of appropriate industry best practice guidelines and diligence requirements (for example ITIL or SOX)

Report Summary

The final section of the report highlights any critical issues and offers suggestions on how they might be addressed.

The Detailed Report

This detailed report follows the same format, but provides full explanation of all the points raised to allow the reader to understand the implications of the audit as if they had been present at the post audit meeting..
